The 2016 IIFA Awards, officially known as the 17th International Indian Film Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the International Indian Film Academy honouring the best Hindi films of 2015, ended this weekend in Madrid, Spain on a very high note as celebrities enthralled the audience with power packed performances, cheerful anecdotes and stunning red carpet best.
The four day award night extravaganza in Spain held between 23 to 26 June, saw a host of vibrant activities including a special yoga class, open to the public at the IIFA on Saturday by actress Shilpa Shetty; musical spectacle IIFA Rocks hosted by Fawad Khan, Karan Johar and Manish Paul on the day 2 of IIFA 2016; fashion designer Vikram Phadnis showcasing his latest collection; and much more. Sonakshi Sinha's ode to her favourite actor Sridevi added more cheer the veteran actress won the Life Time Achievement Award at the IIFA 2016. Even outside the venue, the IIFA Saturday night fever was vibrant in Madrid, Spain. The Madrid city hall was illuminated with the colours of the Indian flag over the weekend in honour of the awards.
Among the newcomers and debut IIFA entrants were Athiya Shetty, Sooraj Pancholi, Tiger Shroff, and Bhumi Pednekar. The noted Bollywood celebs who engrossed the IIFA audience were Sonakshi Sinha, Bipasha, Neha Duphia, Gulshan Grover, Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Manish Paul, Neil Nitin Mukesh were the sought after stars by the audience and media alike.
When it comes to awards, the Indian historical epic movie ‘Bajirao Mastani’ swept the IIFA 2016, by taking home awards for best director, best supporting actress and best male actor for leading man Ranveer Singh. While, Deepika Padukone grabbed the best female actor female for her role in Piku. Piku also won best story award. Priyanka Chopra walked away with the ‘Woman of the year Award’.
