The space agency of the Indian government, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), successfully launches PSLV – C34, its earth observation satellite Cartosat-2 series into earth’s orbit this morning. The vehicle is carrying 20 satellites including those of Google company Terra Bella’s SkySat Gen2, and earth observation and imaging satellites from US, Canada, Germany and Indonesia.
With a total weight of all the 20 satellites carried onboard PSLV-C34 is about 1288 kg and it is the 36th flight of PSLV - Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. PSLV-C34 was launched today at 09:26 hrs (IST) from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota, in Andhra Pradesh, India. It will be the fourteenth flight of PSLV in ‘XL’ configuration (with the use of solid strap-on motors).
According to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the rocket carries ISRO’s Cartosat satellite along with 19 other satellites from US, Canada, Germany and Indonesia as well as one satellite each from Chennai’s Sathyabama University and College of Engineering, Pune. Cartosat satellite will be useful for cartographic, urban, rural, coastal land use, water distribution and other applications.

Mission Accomplished: Al Thani raises UAE flag on World’s Seven Summits: An Emirati mountaineer and adventurer, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD) has successfully completed his last and most challenging climb on 3 June 2016, at the Denali Summit in Alaska, North America, where he proudly raised the UAE flag. His mission was to raise the UAE flag at the top of the world’s seven summits, the highest mountains on each of the world’s seven continents. With this achievement Al Thani becomes one of just 350 mountaineers in the world to conquer all Seven Summits.
Free replacement of unused work permits announced: An announcement from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiritisation on Tuesday says that companies and businesses can now replace unused work permits within six months of their issue, free of charge, up to four times as long as it is for the same profession and gender. The ministry said ‘firms can cancel unused work permits and apply for new one without the need to apply for quota in order to obtain four times is permitted as long as the replacement is for the same profession and of the same gender’.
