Professional boxer Mohammad Ali and Veteran Actor Sulabha Deshpande passed away

The three-time world heavyweight boxing champion who helped define his turbulent times as the most charismatic and controversial sports figure of the 20th century, professional boxer Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74 on June 3 in Phoenix; while the Indian veteran actor Sulabha Deshpande has passed away at the age of 82 on 4 June, leaving a big loss to the Marati and Hindi film industry.

Often referred as the one of the greatest heavyweights in the history of boxing, Mohammad Ali died after a battling with advanced Parkinson’s disease and a respiratory condition. President Obama in a statement on Muhammad Ali’s Death said “Muhammad Ali was The Greatest. Period. If you just asked him, he’d tell you. He’d tell you he was the double greatest; that he’d ‘handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder into jail.’ But what made The Champ the greatest – what truly separated him from everyone else – is that everyone else would tell you pretty much the same thing.”

A recipient of the 1987 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindi-Marathi theatre, Sulabha Deshpande is always remembered for her outstanding performances in Bhumika, Gaman, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyo Aata Hai, Vijeta, Virasat, English Vinglish, and Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Daastan. On stage, she acted in Marathi plays like Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe, Sakharam Binder, Baba Harvale Aahet, among many others.

The space agency of the Indian government, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), successfully launches PSLV – C34, its earth observation satellite Cartosat-2 series into earth’s orbit this morning. The vehicle is carrying 20 satellites including those of Google company Terra Bella’s SkySat Gen2, and earth observation and imaging satellites from US, Canada, Germany and Indonesia.
